Immigration Lawyer in Etobicoke
Etobicoke’s immigration questions are often family questions. Across Rexdale, Mimico, and the central neighbourhoods, the matters we are asked about most involve sponsoring a spouse or partner, reuniting with a child, or protecting the documents — permits, PR cards, travel documents — that keep a family’s status secure.
Annie Rupchand Law is a Toronto boutique practice handling Canadian immigration and refugee matters for families throughout the GTA, in person and virtually.
Working with Etobicoke Clients
Family files reward method. A sponsorship is decided on the documented story of a relationship — communication, financial interdependence, family knowledge, consistency — and refusals usually turn on credibility findings under section 4 of the Regulations. Where an outland sponsorship is refused, the Immigration Appeal Division offers a hearing with evidence and testimony; inland refusals proceed by judicial review at the Federal Court.
Beyond sponsorship, Etobicoke clients ask about humanitarian and compassionate applications after long establishment in Canada, PRTDs when a card expires abroad, and what to do about a refused visitor or work permit. Each of these has a different decision-maker, deadline, and evidence standard — sorting that out early is the substance of a consultation.
Consultations and Document Care
Consultations are in person at the Toronto office, by video, or by telephone. Family-based files often involve documents accumulated over years and across countries; we inventory what exists, identify gaps, and set a collection plan before anything is filed. For travel documents — PRTDs and renewals — the timeline is planned backwards from the travel date.

Frequently Asked Questions
Our spousal sponsorship was refused as not genuine. Can we appeal?
Outland sponsorship refusals carry a statutory right of appeal to the Immigration Appeal Division, with a 60-day window from the decision. The IAD hearing allows documentary evidence and live testimony to address the genuineness finding directly. Inland refusals instead go to the Federal Court by judicial review.
Can you help us renew a PR card or obtain a PRTD?
Yes. Renewals are prepared from inside Canada; PRTD applications are prepared for the visa office abroad when a permanent resident is outside Canada without a valid card. Share travel dates early so urgency evidence can be assembled if needed.
How much detail should we bring to a first meeting?
Refusal letters, previously submitted forms, and a chronological list of key dates matter most. The fuller evidence plan is built together — that is what the meeting is for.
What happens after an appeal is filed?
The Immigration Appeal Division schedules the hearing, and the period before it is used for updated evidence, witness preparation, and any supporting reports. We keep the family informed at each stage.
